Trained by maestro Dipali Nag in Indian classical and semi-classical music for sixteen years, Jhilam Roy Chowdhury, a Musician – Composer – Vocalist (Bengali, Hindi, Ghazal, Sufi, Semi classical, Rabindra-Nazrul-Atul Prasad) she mesmerized all her audience over last 35 years. She is an independent musician who publishes her songs as a self-enterprising singer and composes original music in Bengali contemporary songs and Ghazals.

When she was only ten years old, her parents moved to the city of ‘Calcutta’ from interior Bengal, in order to ensure that their elder daughter, who they realized had a gifted voice, could receive the best possible training in Hindusthani Classical Music. She was groomed by ‘the first lady of Ragpradhan’ Vidushi Dipali Nag, and under her tutelage went on to perform in various concerts in Calcutta and other parts of India. When a young Jhilam accompanied her Guru to Delhi, someone from the audience came up to tell her that she reminded him of a “young Dipali Nag”. Jhilam has her senior Diploma in Hindusthani classical music from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad done in first division in the year 1986. Having been trained for years in Hidusthani classical music, Jhilam has the versatility that very few singers could achieve. She is equally at ease when singing Rabindra Sangeet as she is when she sings Ghazals. Her melodious voice is also perfect for ‘thumri’ which she learnt from her guru Vishushi Dipali Nag.
