Pawan Sony, the ‘specialist’ screenwriter behind some of the most interesting titles in Bollywood over the last decade (Dil Dosti Etc, Sixteen) is a journeyman. He has become the go-to man for quite a few directors who need the right person to pen down their ideas.

Writing is the only thing he wanted to do ever since he can remember. He started off in Delhi — first as a journalist, then as a documentary writer/maker. And in 2004, he decided to move to Bombay to pursue a serious screenwriting career.

Pawan has written for films like the recent hit, Stree, produced by Raj & DK and directed by Amar Kaushik, ‘Dil Dosti Etc’, produced by Prakash Jha and directed by Manish Tiwary, ‘Sixteen’, produced by Shailesh R Singh and directed by Raj Purohit, and ‘Issaq’, produced by Pen House and directed by Manish Tiwary. He was nominated for best Story for ‘Sixteen’ at Life Ok Screen awards 2014.
He has written for shows like POW, Bandi Yuddh Ke and Darr, Sab ko lagta hai. He has also written many documentaries. One of his films ‘Nanduben ki Kahani’ won two silver IDPAs at Indian Documentary Producers Awards.
He has published a graphic novel titled Bhishma, published by Holy Cow. He has been published in a number of magazines and has given public readings at Jaipur Literary Festival and Kaala Ghoda festival.
