Tushar Gunjal WRITER | MUMBAI

Tushar is a screenwriter and novelist based in Mumbai, India. He is one of the
writers of the upcoming digital show ‘Thorley Vishwasrao Dhakley’, a detective
show, co-produced by Bharatiya Digital Party and Endemol Shine, and has created
the long-format audio novels ‘Ipsita’, a story of a man falling prey to the
patriarchy, and ‘Dharana’, a super-human, socio-political neo-noir, for Storytel
India.
He has written screenplays and dialogues for 9 television shows of different
genres in Marathi. To name a few, he’s written for ‘Sindhu’, a period drama about
a young girl fighting against the unjust social customs, ‘Agnihotra-2’, a mystery
family drama, and ‘Aathshe Khidkya Naushe Daara’, a sit-com shot during the
lockdown period.
Tushar has written the first audio feature film ‘Ek Hota Putalya’, a single-location
real-time thriller, for Storytel India, which is under production now. He has cowritten
the upcoming Marathi feature film ‘Awanchhit’, a father-son relationship
drama, directed by S B Nag and produced by Fatfish Entertainments.
He’s currently developing a long-format audio novel tentatively titled ‘IPC
Section…’ for Storytel India, which is a court-room crime drama.
Apart from screenwriting, he also works as a translator, an actor and a storyboard
artist. He’s assisted the director duo Sumitra Bhave-Sunil Sukthankar for the
feature film ‘Kaasav’, which won the National Award for the Best Feature Film in
2016, along with many other national, international accolades. He’s written,
directed, and performed a solo theatre piece ‘P.T.O.’ that won the best play
award in Expression Lab’s Solo Theatre Festival’13.
Before becoming a writer, Tushar had ‘almost’ become a sketch artist, an
engineer, and an animator. This experience adds up to his world view and writing.
He loves to explore history, science, crime, sociology, and politics. He’s an avid
reader, a self-taught chef, and a doting father of a dog and a cat.
