Dr. Lijo. K. Jose, Singer | Lyric Tenor & Composer, joined KMMC as a Western Classical Music faculty in 2015. He completed his Foundation & Diploma Certificates with Distinction in Hindustani and Western Classical Performance from KM Music Conservatory/ Middlesex University and Specialist in Vocal Performance course from KM Music Conservatory. He was trained in Hindustani Voice under Dr. Shruti Jauhari and Western Classical Voice under Ms. Namrata Shah & Mr. Gilles Denizot and currently being mentored by Dr. Robert Alderson & Ms. Situ Singh Buehler in Western Classical Singing and Ust. Fayaz Khan in Hindustani Music. While in KMMC, he was a two-time winner of the A.R. Rahman Foundation Scholarship. He was a soloist for KMMC’s annual Opera Scenes events for
three consecutive years and has performed in events like Fête de la Musique ’15 & 10th International Film Festival of Chennai ’13, Classical Camerata at India International Centre, New Delhi in July ’18 as a soloist, and performed along with the Foundation and Chamber Choirs for many events such as Queens Birthday at British High Commission ’14. While pursuing his degree in Homoeopathic Medicine from Kerala University, he participated in Homoeo Fest ’08 and won the Best Western Classical Singer Award. He has worked as a playback singer in a upcoming Telugu movie named “Kadha”. Lijo was the lead vocalist for a multi-genre band ‘Aver’ based in Chennai and recorded an International Album named “Indie100 International” in 2016. The recent classical music project he was part of was “Songs of Heart” conducted by Françoise Lasserre of Akadêmia for Bonjour India’s events in December ’17, which was performed in three major cities in India. He got a chance to attend a master class with famous Baritone Benjamin Appl on German Lieder with a full scholarship from Goethe institute Mumbai. Also he got a chance to learn from famous voice teacher Dr. Robert Alderson with a full scholarship from Neemrana foundation, New Delhi. Lately, he has been awarded as “Godrej Budding Talent In India Award” by Neemrana Foundation in April ‘18.
Lijo has worked on the project, “Harmony” by Dr. AR Rahman, as a score writer for Amazon Prime. He has composed the “Bay Leaf” ringtone for Nokia/Microso Lumia, a er winning the “Sounds of The World” Project. He has since composed music for music videos like, “Acceptance” which was an official selection for Screen Dance Film Festival, Spain and a few short movies/ documentaries in collaboration with LV Prasad Film & Television Academy, such as: “This Is The Moment”, which was selected in the ‘Focus' Category for the International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala and the Pondicherry Short Film Festival & Mumbai International Film Festival. His latest work as a music composer for a short-film named “Uthamageetham” got screened on 20th Jan ’18 for National Arts Camp’ 18 organised by Department of Cultural Affairs, Kerala Government in Trivandrum. Also he has done music production for Anill Kapoor’s 24 season 2 & Ad Jingle for famous fashion designer Anita Dongre.
Lijo conducts an award winning twenty-member ensemble of beginner singers named “Sansnom Ensemble” (Winners of Acoustic and Acapella Performers: Underground - Last Band Standing at Unwind Centre, Chennai in August ’18) and has done many public performances, including Fête de la Musique in Alliance Française of Madras in June ’18 and “depaysement” - a production on the issue of refugee crisis combining western classical music and hindustani music and directed music for a music video on the same topic. “depaysement” music video was an official selection in Focus Category in International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala in 2018. Sansnom Ensemble’s upcoming performances include a one hour concert in October in association with Preludio in Chennai and a performance in National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai in December.
Previously, Lijo's work in National Cadets Corps afforded him prestigious opportunities such as participating in the His Republic Day Parade in Delhi in 2001 and in other cultural events as part of the National Integration Programme. Lijo is an active member of “Crea-Shakthi”, a theatre group based in Chennai, and has done many productions like “Bonding With Ruskin” & “Indian Tales Off Off Broadway” directed by Dushyanth Gunashekhar in many cities. He has been doing voice training sessions in association with Crea-Shakthi for productions like “Women at War” from May ’18 onwards.
His continuing work involves teaching at KMMC, singing for various composers, independent projects and doing keyboard programming, composing for upcoming Films and Jingles in the industry.
